Site Facts
CRHC is planning to add five townhomes to an existing community
housing site. These homes are to serve larger families.
This development is being done in collaboration with the City of
Edmonton and Alberta Government Municipal Affairs
Located in the north Edmonton neighbourhood of Caernarvon, this
new 5 unit row house project will provide the Capital Region
Housing Corporation with much needed housing for larger
families. The site of the project is on the same parcel of
land as Caernarvon I, a 36 unit apartment building currently
operated by CRHC providing greater utilization of the
property. The property is well located near shopping,
schools, and the local community league.
The front facades of the row houses align with the existing
homes to the north to continue the streetscape along 117A
Street. Both the front and rear facades are stepped in order
to break up the mass of the development and therefore creating more
individual identity to each home. A fenced yard to the rear
provides tenants with a private and secure outdoor space. A
front porch for each unit provides a friendly face to the front
facade and promotes greater neighbour interaction and street
safety. Each home contains five bedrooms, two bathrooms,
laundry, kitchen, dining and living rooms.
A common parking area to the north off the alley allows more
space for landscaping. The new landscaping is designed to
integrate with the existing landscaping and apartment building as
well as the new row housing.
Ideally, people should not be spending more than 30% of their
household income on their housing costs. In recent years, this
balance has become very difficult for many families based in
Edmonton to achieve. CRHC actively builds and purchases existing
developments across Edmonton to include in our housing portfolio.
Rents are geared to income. This allows families to live in a
properly maintained and safe environment while still being able to
afford other necessities. All prospective tenants are carefully
screened to ensure they can comfortably afford their rent and must
complete criminal record checks for these crime free projects. From
a student working evenings while going to university to a retired
senior who volunteers with not-for-profit groups, tenants in our
housing portfolio span many different age groups and job
descriptions. CRHC is committed to giving all qualified families in
the Alberta Capital Region housing options that allow for the best
quality of life possible, given their individual situation.
