In response to a growing need for quality affordable housing in
Edmonton, the Capital Region Housing Corporation has developed the
Intera One project, a three-storey, ten-unit apartment complex in
the Boyle Street neighbourhood. Geared towards employed persons who
face challenges in finding suitable housing within their means,
this project provides safe, secure, and accessible one bedroom
units.
Located at 104th Avenue and 95th street, Intera One contributes
to the continuity of the streetscape and growth of the
neighbourhood by infilling a vacant lot. The facade along 104th
Street provides south facing balconies and patios for 5 units and
encourages residents to take advantage of tree lined street views
and outdoor spaces. Generous glazing along the south (street
facing) and north (parking/ lane) facades provide a visual
connection to the neighbourhood as well as increased "eyes on the
street".
Intera One's proximity to river trails, transit, and downtown
civic, cultural and commercial amenities allows residents to engage
in their community. Within walking distance of Downtown Edmonton,
Chinatown, and Little Italy, residents will have access to all of
the arts and culture activities that these communities offer.
Sustainability is an integral component of the design for Intera
One. Compact fluorescent lighting will be used throughout the
building and placed on timers where feasible. Dual flush toilets,
low flow shower heads, heat recovery on the makeup system, as well
as EnergyStar rated windows and appliances will be used to reduce
the utility costs .The exterior facade will be a combination of
Stucco and cementitious fibreboard siding ("Hardieplank"), in
keeping with the existing street scape.
We'd like to thank City of Edmonton Cornerstones for captial
funding of this project. Boyle Street is one of the oldest
neighbourhoods in Edmonton - Intera One will be a quality building
which will contribute to the revitalization of the area.
