The Affordable Housing Program helps people who need a lower
rent, by offering rental suites that are below market rent.
How can this program help me?
In this program tenants pay rent that is at least 10% below the
market rents for the area.
Am I eligible for this program?
To qualify, applicants must be Canadian Citizens, independent
landed immigrants, or government sponsored landed immigrants.
Applications are reviewed on a case by case basis to ensure the
applicants will be able to afford the rent and all utilities.
The maximum income limits depend on the property you are
applying to live in. Some properties also require a minimum income
to reside there. Applicants must provide verification of their
current income.
If you are unsure about whether or not this program is right for
you, please use our Program Recommender to help guide
your decision.
Application approval is subject to landlord and credit reference
checks.
What else should I know?
The complexes include apartments and townhouses that are
suitable for families with children. The one bedroom apartments and
townhouses accommodate seniors or other single individuals or
couples without children. Some housing units are wheelchair
accessible.
Rent and Other Charges
Tenants pay a set amount of money for rent based on the housing
unit and area they are living in. Tenant's must also pay a security
deposit.
Tenants must arrange and pay for their own:
- Electricity
- Phone
- Cable TV
- Internet
- Heat and water in our townhouse complexes
Crime Free Multi-Housing Program
Properties in the Affordable Housing Program are certified under
the Crime Free Multi-Housing
Program.
Pets
Tenants living in Affordable Housing may be allowed one pet,
such as a small dog or cat. Tenants must complete a pet
application and agree to follow the rules established by
CRHC. Tenants are also responsible for paying a $150
non-refundable pet fee.
Service dogs are not considered to be pets. However, the pet
application information and a pet addendum are still required.
Tenants are requested to submit proof of service dog certification
for their dog with the application.

People interested in the Affordable Housing Program may complete
the necessary application forms and submit them
to CRHC.
